Work on the Ground
Baja Clean Water Mission carries out practical clean-water projects in communities throughout Baja California, Mexico. Our work centers on proven, sustainable approaches — including biosand water filtration — that can make a meaningful difference in water quality and community health.
Biosand Water Filtration
Biosand filters are a proven, low-maintenance technology for improving drinking water quality. These concrete or plastic containers filled with layers of sand and gravel use biological and physical processes to remove contaminants from water. We support the construction, installation, and use of biosand filters in communities that lack access to clean water.
Biosand filtration is particularly well-suited to rural and semi-rural communities because the filters are durable, require no electricity, and can be maintained locally once installed. Our projects involve sourcing materials, constructing the filters, and working directly with community members on installation and use.
Clean Water Access
Beyond filtration, we support broader efforts to improve access to clean water in Baja California communities. This includes sourcing and transporting materials, coordinating with local partners, and carrying out hands-on project work.
Each project is approached with attention to the specific needs and conditions of the community involved. We focus on solutions that are practical, sustainable, and appropriate for the local context.
Community Development
