About Us

An independent Christian ministry rooted in the conviction that the gospel transforms lives — and that practical service opens hearts.

Who We Are

Baja Clean Water Mission is an independent Christian ministry serving families in Baja California, Mexico. We are a small team of believers committed to bringing both the gospel and practical care to the communities where we work. A central part of that practical care is building and delivering concrete Biosand Filters — a proven household water treatment technology — and helping families learn to use and maintain them. We work without denominational affiliation, partnering directly with local pastors and churches who know their communities best.

Why Baja Clean Water Mission Exists

This mission began with a lesson I first encountered in Nicaragua.

In 2015, my wife and I led a team of 16 college students on a mission trip to Nicaragua. We went there to support the long-term missionaries in-country and to serve people in those local communities. One of the overarching problems we kept encountering was the same one that continues to shape this mission today: access to safe drinking water is not a reality for most of these people.

In 2025, I led another mission team of 25 from my son's high school to a small town in Baja California. Once again, we were serving families and children in communities where access to safe water was a very different reality from what we knew at home.

First rule for travelers to Mexico: don't drink the water.

As missionaries, we all followed that rule. We carried our own bottles of purified water so that we wouldn't get sick on the mission field. But something bothered me.

We had clean water. But the people and the kids we were there to serve didn't.

The families and children we met were drinking from local water sources because that was the only water available to them. They didn't have a lot of choices available to them. They were drinking the water their families had relied on for generations.

That changed the way I thought about the problem.

It isn't enough to tell someone, "Don't drink the water," when clean water isn't readily available to them. We need to help make safer water available.

That realization became the foundation for Baja Clean Water Mission.

We use concrete Biosand Filters (BSF) as a practical household water-treatment solution. We build them in-country, quality-check them, deliver them to homes, and teach households basic water hygiene as well as how to use and maintain the filters.

But the filter is not the mission. It is the door.

A clean-water project gives us an opportunity to encounter families, attend to their most basic needs, serve them in a practical way, listen to them, build relationships, pray with them, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our goal is not simply to deliver a piece of equipment and leave. We want to serve and provide people with dignity, develop trust in communities, and work alongside local pastors, missionaries, and churches.

What began with mission teams serving communities in Nicaragua and Baja California has grown into a specific conviction: people shouldn't have to choose between the water available to them and the health of their families.

Baja Clean Water Mission exists to put that conviction into action — providing families in Baja California with clean-water solutions while opening the door to the Gospel.

How We Work

We work in close partnership with local pastors and congregations. We do not parachute in with resources and leave — we build long-term relationships with communities and with the local church leaders who serve them. Our role is to come alongside, contribute what we can, and support the work that local believers are already doing. We are guests in Baja California, and we try to act like it.

What We Stand For

Gospel-centered

Everything we do is in service of the gospel. Clean water matters because people matter — and people matter because God made them and loves them.

Locally rooted

We follow the lead of local pastors and church leaders. They know their communities; we are here to support them.

Practically serious

We take the technical quality of our filters seriously because families are depending on them. Good intentions are not enough.

Relationally committed

We are not a one-time project. We return, we follow up, and we invest in long-term relationships.
